Home SWEETEST Home - Part II

Many people entered the bus, but none of them were to sit beside me. And enter!
“Yippee...!”

A girl enters the bus. Even though I couldn’t see her so clearly from such a distance and in the dim light, I could make out she was one gorgeous girl (a talent that many boys have gained expertise in).
Our eyes met! Damn! It was then I realised that I was staring at her!
I immediately looked out of the window, at apparently nothing, and made sure I did not turn my head towards her for some time.
“Excuse me”, a sweet voice sounded.
I turned around to look at the owner of the voice; most assured that it will be her. But to my dismay, it wasn’t she who spoke. Another girl, not in the least like the first girl continued, “Is there anyone sitting here?” she asked pointing at the seat beside me.
“I don’t know”, I replied hoping that she doesn’t sit beside me! I wanted the other girl beside me.
“Is this seat number 17?” asked someone and in a different voice.
It was indeed the first girl. I opened my mouth to speak but was not able to, out of sheer excitement. I nodded in affirmation and looked at the second girl and she told “OK”.
And now, I got to see her from so close. She was really good-looking.
But it is then that I thought to myself “It would be the same as with all other good-looking girls. She would be committed!”
As the saying goes, “I may be rude, but I’m the truth”. Yeah, truth is rude!
Should I describe her at this point of time? I’m not good with adjectives to do a beautiful description. All I can say is she met most requirements that I had put up for my better half.
Now it’s quite obvious that I have jot down my requirements. Most of them are the same old requirements that any guy would jot down. Firstly, she should be a natural beauty (average looks would do), unlike all the ‘aunties’ who have to put tones and gallons of make-up everyday to try to look good! Second, is the most popular and most common requisite, she should good at heart. I’m not at all bothered about the religion or age. (That does not mean a 30 year old would do! It is understood right?).
Anyway, coming back to the bus… She was placing her bag on the overhead baggage carrier. Then she settled down to sit on THE GREAT SEAT NUMBER 17!
“Emily, I got news for you”, I thought to myself and smiled.
Oh boy! Was my heart pumping faster? How do I break the ice? How do I start a conversation? Why is it that it is the boys who have to always take the first step?
I was trying to get a peek at her every now and then. Maybe she was aware of that too. But she didn’t react like anything out of normal. Probably she was used to such behaviour from guys.
“Come on Rubesh, it’s now or never!” I thought to myself.
“Where are you going to?” I managed to blurt out.
She looked at me “Eh? Kannur!”
How cool is that? We are going to the same place. (Did I ever mention that I hate to travel? Well, I take it back now! LOL)
“And you?” she asked me.
“Same” I replied.
Wow, I got a conversation started.
“Oh, cool! What do you do in Mysore?”
“I work at Infosys, a trainee actually.” I said.
Now I got that surprised look on her face. So cute!
“What do you do?” I asked.
“I am a 3rd year engineering student at…” and she told some college name which I forgot!
Cool! We are in the same trade. She got comfortable talking with me and I saw that I have a long night-journey ahead of me.
“Nice” I commented. “So your house is in Kannur?”
“Yes, and I guess yours too?” came the answer.
Our conversation continued. I got to know that she stayed a bit far off from my place, around 40 km away. She went to the same school as my sister and brother did. She had a younger brother who finished with his XII grade.
“No, no, no…! Please don’t yawn, not now” I told myself as I tried hard to suppress a yawn.
“Are you feeling sleepy?” she asked.
Oops! Now that’s a tricky question. It was quite obvious that I was sleepy but then, I didn’t want to sleep. But life has taught me, many a times, that in such situations it is better to stick to the truth.
“Yes, kind of sleepy. Had a long days work for the past couple of days!” I replied sounding to be a busy person at work.
“I guess you better get some sleep then” she said.
I looked at her and smiled and pushed my seat backwards. She tried to push her seat. But she couldn’t. She looked at me and I instantly got the message that she wanted help. I leaned across her and pressed the handle and helped her push the seat. Cool! J
“By the ways, sorry for forgetting to ask this question for such a long time” I said.
She looked at me, confused.
“What’s your name?” I asked her.
She gave a smile. Oh, man! She was looking so good with that smile on her face.
“Jasmine” she told “I’m also sor…”
I cut her out and told “I am Rubesh”.
With that we prepared to get some sleep. Five minutes into this, her phone started to ring.
Gash! I remembered the words again “I may be rude, but I am the truth”.
It has to be her boyfriend. Who else is going to call at 11:45 in the night? But to my relief, I could hear a lady’s voice from her phone.
I don’t know when I fell asleep. I woke up at some time around 1:30 am and looked to my side to find Jasmine sleeping. Wow! Now I could see her so well. I could simply stare at her face and admire all that beauty.
Then I looked out of the window to see how Wayanad looks at night. Awesome! It was nothing like I imagined. It was as dark as charcoal! L
And very soon, I fell asleep again only to wake up again at 3:00 am and this time she too was awake! (Situation seems familiar to some people? At least to those who have seen the Tamil movie ‘Vaaranamaayram’?)
We had a small chit-chat and went to sleep again. Then I woke up around 15 minutes was left for the bus to reach the destination. She was still asleep. I woke her up after 5 minutes. She just wiped her face with her hankie and combed and tied her hair.
“Natural Beauty!” I thought to myself and checked the item on the requirement list in my mind. J
Kannur KSRTC Bus Station
We got down at Kannur bus stand and the reality hit me hard. We had to part company. L
Should I ask her phone number? I usually don’t have any problem asking a girl’s phone number. But when it was most necessary I was in two minds! What would she think of me if I ask her for her number?
“OK, it was nice meeting you and I hope to meet you soon” she said.
“Sure, after all, it’s a small world” I replied.
She smiled but said nothing. Shall I ask now? Why do boys always have to take the first step?
“So that’s it? Shall we move?” I asked.
“Okay, good-bye” she said.
And we walked in opposite directions.
“Turn back and call her now” I thought to myself.
“Rubesh…”
I turned back…
