Home SWEETEST Home - Part III

Click to read:
And we walked in opposite directions.
“Turn back and call her now” I thought to myself.
“Rubesh…”

I turned back…
“How will we keep in touch?” she asked.
So, it is not always the boys who have to take the first step. J
Why couldn’t I ask that? “He’s such a loser…!” was the song that struck my mind at that time.
“Oh, you can take down my number” I replied.
“Sure” she said, taking out her cell phone.
I gave her my number and she returned a missed call.
In Malayalam there is a saying that goes “Veraan ullathu vazhiyil thangilla! (Whatever that has to happen will not get stuck on the way!)”. How true!
I was just thinking of another friend of mine who had a tough time getting the phone number of a girl whom he had a crush on and never succeeded. But then later, he came to know she was engaged! Yeah, he was another victim of the “Truth is Rude” situation. Comparing to that, things were really happening quite easily for me.
Her bus was from a bus station around five minute walk away from the place where we got down. I could very well get a bus to my place from right here. Here is the next dilemma! Should I accompany her to the bus station?
“Are you walking to the bus station?” I asked.
“Yes, it is so nice walk at this time of the morning” she replied.
“OK, I’ll come with you then” I said.
“That’s so nice of you, but if you are in a hurry it is OK” she said.
Now, what was that suppose to mean? Did she mean that she didn’t want my company or was it a heads-up?
Why do these girls give answers like this? Huh, but if you are in a hurry it is OK! Now what?
“It’s OK. What if we never meet again?” I replied.
“Hey, don’t say that. We’ll meet for sure, won’t we?” she asked, her eyebrows twisted into a frown.
Have we got so much attached to each other with just an overnight journey? Anyway, we started walking towards the bus station and had a conversation going on between us. We reached the bus station and there was a bus ready to go her place. I looked at her. She told she’ll take the next bus since that bus was a rickety one.
“After all it is to your place” I joked.
“As if…!” she smiled.
Now, was that bus really a rickety one, or did she just want to spend some more time with me?
By this time we had already finished talking about family, school, college, friends and were running out of topics. Saved by the bell? The next bus to her place arrived.
“There comes…” I told.
“Yeah” she replied.
“Do give a missed call at least at times”, I said. Why on Earth did I blurt that out? Such a loser!
“Why, can’t I call you?” she returned.
Good that I told it. J
“No, my mom doesn’t like me talking to girls on phone” I joked.
“Really? Mommy’s boy?” she asked.
 Ufff…! Idiot!
“It was meant to be a joke!” I said.
“Oh, sorry! I’ll make sure I laugh at your next joke” she teased.
“Yeah, yeah… Anyway, there is your bus. Better get in before it gets crowded” I said.
With a quick exchange of good byes’ we parted.
Was that the end of the Jasmine chapter? Can’t be, right? If it were such a short un-happening story, I wouldn’t have posted it on this blog!
Now I had to get a bus to my place and at last “Home SWEETEST Home” is not far away. Moving away from the city, entering into the typical lush green villagey atmosphere of Kerala, the cold wind on my face... It felt so nice. I used to feel the same when I used to return home from college. This time the feel-good situation was made better with the thoughts of Jasmine.
Kattampally Backwaters
On the way, there is a beautiful backwater which I always admire so much on the way back home. But this time I somehow missed it. May be I was too engrossed with other thoughts.
And finally I reached home. The door was left open as usual. I entered my home. My brother was still asleep and mom was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. She was so happy to see me after so long. I told her that it was nice journey and had slept pretty well. She woke up my brother then. The only plan I had for the day was to go to my uncle’s home. They just shifted to their new house three days back. I thought of going there in the morning itself. But then had to change plans and go in the evening as there was a ritual called Vellattam happening there in the evening.
Vellattam
Such rituals are found only in very small areas of Kerala.
Anyways, my Saturday morning was quite uneventful. Just met my relatives near my house and all were eager to know about my life in Mysore. And I spent the afternoon sleeping and then left for my uncle’s house by 4:00 pm with my brother. I met my relatives and cousins out there, did a bit of shopping in the city and returned home by 9:30 pm. (I know you people are least interested in knowing these things. So going back to Jasmine)
Jasmine had texted me saying she reached home at 8:00 am.
Me: I reachd by 7 n was a lil busy, dats y I dint txt u.
Jasmine: Me too was busy. So nice 2 b home n c evry1. I told about u 2 mom. J
I hadn’t told anything to my mom. In fact, I hardly talk about my friends to my mom.
Me: Wat r plans 4 2moro?
Jasmine: Goin 2 the city.
Cool! I too was going. If not earlier, now I was going for sure! J
Me:  Me too.  J
Jasmine: So we shall meet!
Me: But I’l b comin only in the evening. Gotta go2 mom’s place in the morning
Jasmine: Of course yes. Who is mad 2 get out in this heat??
And mind you, at this time of the year, it is really hot and humid in Kerala especially in the afternoon.
Me: Yeah, if possible v’l meet. Wil call u 2moro.
Jasmine: Okays, gud night.
Me: Good night. Take care.
And that was the end of the day.
