Home SWEETEST Home - Part IV

Me: Yeah, if possible v’l meet. Wil call u 2moro.
Jasmine: Okays, gud night.
Me: Good night. Take care.
And that was the end of the day.

The next day I woke up in two minds. On one side I wanted it to be evening as soon as possible so as to meet Jasmine. On the other hand, it meant I had to leave my house for the return journey to Mysore.
(I usually feel kind of homesick whenever I had to return from my home to college)
Wait…! Did I just think about the return journey?
How could I just forget to ask Jasmine about her return to Mysore?  Probably we would be in the same bus. Will I be so extra lucky? Hopefully yes.
And if we happen to be in the same bus again, will we be sitting as before? Wow…! Unthinkable!
Enough, it would too much of luck for two days. It is not going to happen again. But what if it does??
So cool! Sitting with her for one more overnight journey!
“Rubesh...!” my mom called out. Yeah, I know it was wake up time.
Today, I was supposed to go to my mom’s place to meet relatives over there.
I have to return home fast from my mom’s place to go to the city to meet Jasmine in the evening. After meeting her, I have to come back home to prepare for my journey to Mysore. My bus was scheduled to leave at 9:30 pm. This time hopefully it will be on schedule. But if Jasmine would be on the same bus, I don’t mind even if the bus a couple of hours late.
With all this planned, I left for my mom’s place by 10:30 am. It takes an hour and a half from my house to there. After having said everything about my new life at Mysore to my relatives and finishing my lunch there, it was almost time for me to leave. I bid good-bye to all and left.
On the way to the bus-stop, I rang up Jasmine. She didn’t respond to the call. L
I did not wait for the phone to disconnect automatically. After four rings I cancelled the call.
I thought she might be busy, and decided to call her after some time. I got a bus to the town. (Actually I have to take three buses to travel between my mom’s house and our house).
I tried calling her again. This time I allowed the phone to ring till it got cancelled. No answer. Now I was getting upset. What was happening over there? It may not be anything, she may still be busy, I thought. It is now half an hour since the first call.
I again tried her number, ten minutes later while on the bus home. Engaged!!!
Phew, I was glad she was okay!
By this time I had reached home. I dialled in her number again. The phone simply kept ringing. No response! Was she avoiding me? I decided to leave her a message.
“Hey, I tried callin u. Newayz, me gonna leave 2 city. Wil reach in half an hour. Hope 2 c u. Il leave 4 mysore 2nite. Wat abt u? Reply”
It was 3:30 pm when I left for the city. I reached there by 4:10 pm and yet there was no reply from Jasmine. Now I really started to think that she was avoiding me. Why should I care about her? I just met her yesterday and was with her for less than half a day. Who cares about her? I tried putting thoughts about her to the back of my mind but found it quite difficult to do so.
Questions kept popping up in my mind. Why is she doing this to me? What have I done? I had just finished with all my shopping and was on my way to the ATM to withdraw some cash. No reply from her yet!
My phone beeped indicating the arrival of a message. I took out my phone from inside the pocket in a flash. I opened my inbox hoping to see a message sent from “Jasmine Mysore”. My heart beat hard. I was simply too excited.
But that feeling was not meant to last long. I opened the message. It said “Hi Rubesh. I was lil busy. I am on the way bak 2 my home from city. Sorry I dint inform u”
If you people have studied in a CBSE school, there was a chapter in English named “Never trust a Lady”. This is precisely why the board has included chapters such as these.
My suggestion: The Board should have included the lesson in some higher grade when we boys could have understood its true meaning.
The only logical reason that I could give for such a response is that she has a boy friend back at her place and she came to the city with him. And obviously they both were together the whole day. That explains why she didn’t attend any of my calls or reply to my messages. But why did she give me false hopes yesterday saying that we could meet. And it was she who told that we could meet. She! She! Not me!
Ughhh! GIRLS!!!
This was it! The end of the chapter called, Jasmine, in my life. With all this in my head, I returned home. Yeah, my mom understood that there was something wrong. She thought it was because I was going to leave home. I didn’t want to change her reasoning. It is then that I understood that I was showing out what I felt inside. So I decided to cheer up and bury the Jasmine chapter within me. After all she was only one of the many girls I have met in life, all the same.
The last bus to the city from my place was at 8:00 pm. I hurriedly transferred a few songs into my mobile as I had just 45 minutes left to leave.
And then… It had to happen. How does nature get the timing so correct? A huge flash of lightning! The power supply of the entire area went off. And what’s wrong with the inverter? The house didn’t come back on back-up power! It was starting to get hot. I was sweating as if I was just back after a marathon. The only light in my room was from my laptop. I rushed downstairs to get the emergency light.
Neyyappam
I quickly shut down my laptop and packed up my bag. I did not forget to pack home-made neyyappam to take back to my friends back at Infosys. If it were not for my brother who reminded me to pack things like my phone charger, shoes etc. I would have forgotten them for sure.
It was raining outside. That meant that I have to carry an umbrella. Oh no…! My friends know very well how much I hate to carry an umbrella around. There was no choice now. I had to travel around with a wet umbrella! Yuck!
I got the local bus and reached the bus station by 8:30 pm. I had noticed that there was no power supply in any area covered in the 12 km from my place to the city!
Halwa
I bought some halwa as promised to my friends. The time was 8:40 pm now. I still had a full 50 minutes left for the bus to come. And I really hope the bus comes on time or even better if it comes much earlier than the scheduled time. Whether Jasmine was on the same bus or not, I don’t care anymore!
Now I have wait 50 minutes. I didn’t want to sit alone as again as I would start thinking about Jasmine again. I took out my phone and started playing games, only to keep her away from my mind. I was playing “MicroPool” on my phone when it started ringing.
The screen showed “Jasmine Mysore calling”
